Why convert PNG to ICO?
An ICO file is a container that holds several sizes of the same icon. Browsers pick the 16 or 32 px version for the tab, Windows uses 48 px and above for shortcuts and the taskbar.
This converter builds all the sizes you select from one PNG and packs them into a single favicon.ico, keeping the transparent background.

Frequently asked questions
What sizes should a favicon.ico contain?
16, 32 and 48 px cover browser tabs, bookmarks and Windows shortcuts. Adding 64, 128 and 256 px makes the icon look sharp in large Windows views.
Does the ICO keep transparency?
Yes. Each size is stored as a PNG inside the ICO, with the alpha channel intact.
Can I convert a JPG or SVG to ICO?
Yes. Drop any image; the converter accepts JPG, SVG, WebP and other formats too.
Do I still need favicon.ico in 2026?
Modern browsers also accept PNG and SVG favicons via a link tag, but /favicon.ico is still requested by many browsers, crawlers and tools, so it is worth having.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. formatmath converts files with code that runs inside your browser. Your files are never uploaded, stored or seen by us.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no watermark and no daily limit. An account is optional and only keeps a history of your conversions.
