    Why convert WebP to PNG?

Websites serve images as WebP because the files are small and load fast. The catch appears when you save one: many desktop editors, older Office versions, some messengers and upload forms either refuse WebP or open it as a blank file.

PNG is the closest match to WebP for graphics. It keeps transparency and is lossless, so logos, icons, stickers and screenshots come out pixel-for-pixel the same as they looked in the browser.

    Frequently asked questions

Does WebP to PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes. PNG supports a full alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent areas stay exactly as they were in the WebP file.

Why can’t I open WebP files on my computer?

WebP is a web format that arrived later than JPG and PNG. Modern browsers support it, but older image viewers and editors often do not. Converting to PNG gives you a file every program can open.

Will the PNG be larger than the WebP?

Usually, yes. WebP compresses better than PNG, so the same image often grows two to five times in size. Quality does not drop, it just takes more bytes to store losslessly.

Can I convert animated WebP to PNG?

Only the first frame is saved, because a standard PNG is a single still image.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. formatmath converts files with code that runs inside your browser. Your files are never uploaded, stored or seen by us.

    Is it free?

Yes. There is no watermark and no daily limit. An account is optional and only keeps a history of your conversions.
