How to convert PNG to JPG

    1. Add your PNG files

Drop them on the converter, click Choose files or paste from the clipboard. You can add as many as you like.

    2. Adjust the settings

Set the JPG quality and choose a colour to replace transparent areas. The file sizes before and after are shown for every image.

    3. Download your JPG files

Each file converts automatically. Save files one by one or all at once as a ZIP.

    Why convert PNG to JPG?

PNG files are lossless, which makes them large. A photo saved as PNG can be five to ten times bigger than the same photo as JPG, enough to hit email attachment limits or slow down an upload.

Converting photos and complex images to JPG cuts the size dramatically with no visible loss at sensible quality settings. Keep PNG for screenshots with small text, line art and anything that needs a transparent background.

    Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will the JPG be?

It depends on the image. Photos usually shrink by 70–90%. Simple graphics with flat colours may shrink less, and occasionally a tiny PNG icon is already smaller than its JPG version.

Does PNG to JPG reduce quality?

JPG is lossy, so some data is discarded. At 85–95% quality the change is not visible in normal viewing. You can compare the before and after sizes and reconvert at a different quality instantly.

    What happens to transparent backgrounds?

They are filled with the background colour you choose, white by default, because JPG cannot store transparency.

Can I convert many PNG files to JPG at once?

Yes. Drop as many files as you like and download them one by one or all together in a ZIP archive.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. formatmath converts files with code that runs inside your browser. Your files are never uploaded, stored or seen by us.

    Is it free?

Yes. There is no watermark and no daily limit. An account is optional and only keeps a history of your conversions.
