Why convert JPG to WebP?
WebP photos are usually about a quarter to a third smaller than JPGs at the same visual quality. On image-heavy pages such as blogs, galleries and online stores, that adds up to a noticeably faster site.
This converter re-encodes your JPGs as WebP right in the browser, so even large batches are quick and private.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth converting JPG to WebP?
For websites, yes. Smaller images load faster on mobile connections. For personal sharing and printing, JPG is still more compatible.
Does converting JPG to WebP lose quality?
Both formats are lossy, so the image is re-encoded. At 80% quality or higher the difference is very hard to see.
Can I convert JPG to lossless WebP?
This tool creates lossy WebP, which is what makes the files smaller. Lossless WebP of a JPG is usually larger than the JPG itself.
Does it work in Safari?
Yes. If your Safari version cannot encode WebP natively, the page loads a small WebP encoder automatically.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. formatmath converts files with code that runs inside your browser. Your files are never uploaded, stored or seen by us.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no watermark and no daily limit. An account is optional and only keeps a history of your conversions.
